At the time of this writing (6/26/2002), visitors who purchase products from our BW Store are requested to provide information in an order form. This order form, and all information use and privacy policies are set and maintained by www.CafePress.com. Menagerie Publications holds no responsibility for the information www.CafePress.com gathers.
Information Use
Some section of www.BorderWalker.com request user information including E-mail address, name, company name, job title, company address, company phone number, self-determined passwords and usernames, and user opinions/questions. This information is used to provide services, which include response to user questions and comments, public opinion poll results, message board account maintenance, e-mail newsletter delivery, and editorial review of creative works and hyperlinks. None of the information collected at www.BorderWalker.com is provided to outside companies or individuals, and is kept in secure trust by Menagerie Publications and the BorderWalker staff.
Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s computer tied to information about the user. We use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the user’s hard drive for an extended period of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions. For more information on usage of and how to remove cookies, we recommend you check your web browser application's help files, or visit the software manufacturer's website (such as Microsoft and Netscape).
By setting session cookies from our site, users of our polling system will be able to see the poll results in place of the voting choices, after casting a vote, throughout their session. By setting persistent cookies from our site, users are enabled to log into our message board forums (and, for applicable staff members, the site administration component) only once, thereby saving time while on our site. If users reject these cookies, they may still use our site and will not suffer any loss of functionality aside from not being able to use or view cookie-stored information as outlined above.
Third Party Advertising
The ads appearing on this Web site are delivered to users by our own web advertising system, hosted along with our web site. Information about users’ visits to this site, including the number of times they have viewed and clicked on a given ad (but not user name, address, or other personal information) is collected automatically while users browse the site.
This privacy statement covers the use of cookies by www.BorderWalker.com only and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers.
Log Files and Tracking
We use WebTrends Live for site usage statistics, log files and tracking. Please view the WebTrends Live section on our Legal Information page for more details.
Newsletter
If a user wishes to subscribe to our newsletter, we ask only for the user's email address. Out of respect for our users' privacy we provide a way to unsubscribe from this newsletter mailing list. To have one's e-mail address removed from the newsletter mailing list, users are requested to send a direct reply to the newsletter with REMOVE in the subject line. These instructions are repeated in the body of each email newsletter.
Service Announcements
On rare occasions it is necessary to send out a strictly service related announcement. For instance, if our service is temporarily suspended for maintenance we might send users an email. Generally, these sort of announcements will only be sent to subscribers on our newsletter mailing list and to account holders in our message board forums. Although there is no way to opt out of these communications specifically, users can request removal from the mailing list (see above) or deactivate their forum account at any time.
Customer Service
We communicate with users on a regular basis to provide requested services and to respond to issues relating to messages received from them. We reply via email or phone, in accordance with the users' wishes.

Legal Disclaimer
Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our Web site.
Aggregate Information (non-personally identifiable)
We share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. Specifically, traffic statistics and log file reports along with user opinions gathered from polls, surveys, message board forums and e-mail comments, are used to generate this demographic information. This is not linked to any personally identifiable information.
Business Transitions
In the event Menagerie Publications goes through a business transition, such as a merger, being acquired by another company, or selling a portion of its assets, users’ personal information will, in most instances, be part of the assets transferred. Users will be notified via prominent notice on our Web site for 30 days prior to a change of ownership or control of their personal information. If as a result of the business transition, the users’ personally identifiable information will be used in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection they will be given choice consistent with our notification of changes section.

This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site.
Submission of Projects/Works for Publication
Although project/creative work submission forms are not a part of this web site and its functionality, we do maintain a page containing submission guidelines regarding project proposals and related material. Any information provided to us related to submissions for consideration for publication falls under the same privacy and security policies outlined in this page. Any original copyright-protected ideas, concepts, and creative works received by us remain the property of their creators, although we maintain the right to hold onto information and work submitted to us indefinitely, for use in making editorial decisions about projects and creators to tap for publication.
Surveys & Contests
From time-to-time our site requests information from users via surveys or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name, e-mail address and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code). Contact information will be used and, where applicable, shared with the contest/survey sponsors, to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site. Users’ personally identifiable information is not shared with third parties unless we give prior notice and choice. Though we may use an intermediary to conduct these surveys or contests, they may not use users’ personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
Security
This Web site takes every precaution to protect our users’ information. When users submit sensitive information via the Web site, their information is protected both online and off-line. None of the forms on our site request any sensitive information that we believe requires encryption.
All of our users’ information is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information. Furthermore, ALL employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices. Any time new policies are added, our employees are notified and/or reminded about the importance we place on privacy, and what they can do to ensure our users’ information is protected. Finally, the servers that store personally identifiable information are in a secure environment, in a locked third-party facility.
If users have any questions about the security at our Web site, they can send an email using our contact form.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, place an announcement in the News area on the homepage, and other places we deem appropriate so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
If, however, we intend to use users’ personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify users via email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. However, if users have opted out of all communication with the site, or deleted/deactivated their account, then they will not be contacted, nor will their personal information be used in this new manner. In addition, if we make any material changes in our privacy practices that do not affect user information already stored in our database, we will post a prominent notice on our Web site notifying users of the change. In some cases where we post a notice we will also email users, who have opted to receive communications from us, notifying them of the changes in our privacy practices.
